Objectives: To build capacity in tropical cyclone and severe weather warning services through providing human resource support, software and systems and training for the Fiji Regional Specialised Metorological Centre (RSMC) and various Pacific Island meteorological services and their severe weather forecasters. _x000D_
Objectives: To combat land degradation and mitigate its effects through the enhancement of SLM capacities into planning, development and utilization of land
Objectives: Main Objective: The conservation of forest ecosystems in the Pacific Island Countries is supported in order to mitigate climate change and preserve biodiversity
Objectives: Enhancing community's adaptive capacity to cope with climate related risks through effective adaptation approaches
Objectives: Enhancing community's adaptive capacity to cope with climate related risks through effective adaptation approaches
Objectives: Overall objective: The capacities of regional organisations in the Pacific Island region and its memer states to adapt to climate change and mitigate its causes are strengthened; C1: Improved advisory and management capacity in regional organisations promotes adaptation to CC and the reduction of GHG emissions in the region; C2: Selected PICs are implementing adaptation strategies for managing natural resources and sector policies that systematically incorporate climate considerations; C3: Selected PICs have successfully implemented and evaluated adaptation and mitigation measures in the field of natural resources, particularly at community level; C4: Innovative partnerships and approaches in the toursim sector are promoting adaptation to CC and a reduction in GHGs; C5: Public and private service providers in the energy sector are strengthening and improving their climate-related services and their focus on sustainability, reliability and cost-effectiveness in the energy sector within the region; C6: Capacities of education ministries, training institutions, schools and teachers strengthened to plan and deliver education on CC adaptation and mitigation.
Fiji in the midst of all vulnerabilities presented by climate change continues to drive climate action globally. However, the starting point for effective action on climate change begins with a thorough understanding of climate technology needs. Thus the Fiji Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Project is focused on determining Fiji’s climate technology priorities to successfully address the country's climate change adaptation and mitigation committments. Fiji’s TNA is focused on agriculture and coastal communities as priority sectors under the adaptation component of the project. On the mitigation forefront, the sectors selected to undergo a needs assessment include domestic maritime shipping and rural electrification.
The TNA process in Fiji is country-driven, requiring heavy stakeholder engagement and local capacity building. The scope and depth of the Fiji TNA is well aligned to our national development objectives allowing national stakeholders to explore synergies with other national processes, striving towards the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and National Adaptation Plans (NAP).
Objectives: The TNA is entailed in a three-stage process and has three key objectives:
Stage 1: To identify and prioritise mitigation and adaptation technologies for selected sectors;
Stage 2: To identify, analyse and address barriers hindering the deployment and diffusion of the prioritised technologies, including the enabling framework for these technologies; and
Stage 3: To conduct a Technology Action Plan, which is a medium/long-term plan for increasing the implementation of identified technologies, based on the inputs obtained from the previous two steps. The Technology Action Plan outlines actions to be undertaken.
