Pacific Climate Change Programme: Strengthening THE Capacity of Pacific Development Member Countries to Respond to Climate Change (SCPDMCRCC)
Objectives: to ensure the continued economic growth of Pacific DMCs in the face of global climate change, by reducing their vulnerability to its risks and impacts
Objectives: Overall objective: The capacities of regional organisations in the Pacific Island region and its memer states to adapt to climate change and mitigate its causes are strengthened; C1: Improved advisory and management capacity in regional organisations promotes adaptation to CC and the reduction of GHG emissions in the region; C2: Selected PICs are implementing adaptation strategies for managing natural resources and sector policies that systematically incorporate climate considerations; C3: Selected PICs have successfully implemented and evaluated adaptation and mitigation measures in the field of natural resources, particularly at community level; C4: Innovative partnerships and approaches in the toursim sector are promoting adaptation to CC and a reduction in GHGs; C5: Public and private service providers in the energy sector are strengthening and improving their climate-related services and their focus on sustainability, reliability and cost-effectiveness in the energy sector within the region; C6: Capacities of education ministries, training institutions, schools and teachers strengthened to plan and deliver education on CC adaptation and mitigation.
Objectives: Main Objective: The conservation of forest ecosystems in the Pacific Island Countries is supported in order to mitigate climate change and preserve biodiversity
Objectives: Provides accurate records of sea level variance and establishes methods for usability of readily available data on sea level behaviour on climatological time scales. Complements other global and regional efforts to build and maintain long-term data sets._x000D_
Objectives: Assisting SOPAC member countries assess their capacity to receive, communicate and respond effectively to tsunami warnings.
Building Capacity in South Pacific National Meteorological Services to Strengthen Warning Services for Tropical Cyclones and other Severe Weather
Objectives: To build capacity in tropical cyclone and severe weather warning services through providing human resource support, software and systems and training for the Fiji Regional Specialised Metorological Centre (RSMC) and various Pacific Island meteorological services and their severe weather forecasters. _x000D_
Objectives: Development and implementation of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) National Actions Plans (NAP) for Pacific ACP countries._x000D_
Objectives: To promote the principles of ‘sustainable development’, working directly with water users and community leaders to improve drinking water and sanitation for people in rural communities. (To support some of the issues in the community action plans developed as part of Governing Water Project.)
