Project Information

Description

The Climate Change Bill Implementation Support project will assist Fiji’s private sector to measure and report greenhouse gas emissions and integrate climate resilience and energy efficiency in Fiji building code and sector (under the Low Emissions Climate Resilient Development (LECRD) program)

Achievements

  1. Green-home builder´s manual: Developed five (5) sections to the "Build green: Fiji home building manual 2023" (FHBM), at the request of government. This contribution provides best practices that can be applied to all homes in Fiji.
  2. Green buildings score card: Co-created a localized version of a rating system for buildings in close consultation with the key local-industry stakeholders, to serve as a practical tool to measure the energy efficiency criteria of a building, a key- voluntary section of the building code that its of high importance from a climate change perspective. This tool was endorsed by government and used by ADB-WaveFront
  3. Communication pieces: Developed a video (90s) along with a series of radio adds and brochures on how to practically go about improving the resiliency of homes in the rural areas, targeting key areas such as location, joints, maintenance, and others. These were endorsed by the Permanent Secretary of Rural Development.
  4. GGGI developed and handed over the NEP to government in 2021. Continued to support the progression of the NEP through government review process and provided funding for design, layout and printing. The NEP was adopted by Cabinet in May 2023
