The Programme Development Unit (PDU) is part of the Department of Climate Change under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. It serves as a central hub for coordinating climate finance and ensuring that climate projects and proposals align with Fiji’s national development goals.
PDU plays a pivotal role in supporting the development of climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives. Acting as a primary coordinating body, it fosters collaboration among government ministries, NGOs, local communities, academic institutions, and other key stakeholders. By ensuring inclusive input and strategic alignment with national priorities, PDU helps create climate projects that are both impactful and sustainable.
A key focus of PDU is supporting the implementation of Fiji’s Climate Change Act 2021, particularly Part 14 on Sustainable Financing. PDU guides the development of financial strategies and mechanisms to secure long-term investment in climate resilience, in line with both national and international climate goals.
PDU also ensures that project proposals are developed in accordance with Fiji’s key policy frameworks, including the National Climate Finance Strategy, National Adaptation Plan (NAP), Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), and National Development Plan (NDP). This alignment helps ensure that projects contribute meaningfully to Fiji’s broader goals of sustainable development and climate resilience.
