The Climate Change Division of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) convened a meeting with the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and iTaukei Affairs Board to discuss a common “at-risk” community list for Fiji for further assessments towards planned relocation.
The meeting was chaired by the Commissioner of the Western Division, Mr Apolosi Lewaqai who emphasized the importance of having an integrated approach to stakeholder engagement in the consolidation of existing community lists.
The meeting aims to follow up on the recommendation from the meeting in August 2022 to develop a common list of at-risk communities using a standardized selection process, identify a criterion for consolidating existing community lists and applying them for further selection, and agree on how the community lists should be described and conveyed to the public and the period term of review for this list.
