The Climate Change and International Cooperation Division (CCICD) of the Ministry of Economy (MoE) proudly hosted the first ever information session on the 27th UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP) with the Open Sector Working (SWG) group at the Grand Pacific Hotel on the 12th of October 2022. The event brought in a diverse range of representation from the government, private sector, academics, youths, fresh graduates from universities, civil society organizations and non-government organizations.
Led by the Climate Finance team, the information session was an ideal platform to engage with the general public, introduce the work of CCICD, the Green Climate Fund as well as the work of the SWG and provide a briefing of outcomes borne out of the 26th COP in Glasgow, UK and key priorities to the 27th COP in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The team was happy to witness a significant interest from the public on Fiji’s progress in the climate change space and the interactions that followed across the floor and throughout the session inspired key messages for Fiji to the 27th COP. A feedback and Q&A session was solicited at the end of the four-session presentation and contributions made from the floor was positively welcomed by the team. The event closed with encouragement from the participants for the hosting of similar information sessions in the future.
The support of the British High Commission and the Global Green Growth Institute is acknowledged in hosting this information session. A report on this first information session and copies of the presentations have been publicly made available here.
