Fiji is dealing with rising sea levels, coastal inundation, salt water intrusion and shoreline erosion, resulting in communities to request the Government to support them for relocation. At present, close to 50 Fijian villages have been earmarked for potential relocation in the next 5 to 10 years, owing to the impacts of climate crisis. Six have already been relocated. A Climate Relocation of Communities (CROC) Trust Fund has been established for planned relocation in Fiji. On 18 January 2024, an information sharing session was organized by the Climate Change Division through the Commonwealth National Climate Finance Advisor to Fiji on the CROC Trust Fund. Mr. Sumeet Chandra Naidu (Consultant from UNOPS -Platform on Disaster Displacement working at Climate Change Division) was invited to make a presentation on the CROC Trust Fund . The session was attended by Commonwealth National Climate Finance Advisors from Tonga, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Seychelles and Maldives. Experience from Tonga’s Climate Fund was also shared at this session.
