Description

This project focuses on enhancing the resilience of Fiji’s coastal communities against the impacts of climate change, particularly sea level rise and coastal erosion. The programme integrates ecosystem-based adaptation, sustainable infrastructure, and community awareness initiatives.

Objectives

Strengthen coastal protection through mangrove restoration and nature-based solutions.

Support climate-resilient infrastructure development in vulnerable communities.

Enhance local capacity to manage disaster risks and adapt to climate impacts.

Promote gender equality and inclusivity in community adaptation planning.

Expected Outputs

500 hectares of mangroves restored.

10 km of coastal infrastructure upgraded to climate-resilient standards.

15 community workshops conducted on climate adaptation.

Gender Relevant Information

The project ensures equal participation of women and marginalized groups in all training and decision-making activities.

Achievements

Pilot mangrove restoration successfully completed in Rewa in 2023.

Over 1,000 community members trained in disaster preparedness.

Additional Information

This project contributes directly to Fiji’s National Adaptation Plan and supports regional commitments under the Paris Agreement.
