This presentation introduces Fiji’s inter-ministerial work coordinated by the Climate Change and International Cooperation Division (CCICD). It includes the Green Climate Fund (GCF) readiness, the National Designated Authority (NDA), and the Sector Working Groups (SWGs). It also shows key outcomes of the Conference of Parties (COP) 26 in Glasgow, United Kingdom, and introduces the upcoming COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The presentation supported the first ever information session on the COP27 hosted by the CCICD of the Ministry of Economy. The event was a four-session seminar hosted with the Open Sector Working Group (SWG) to inform the Fijian public. It was held on 12 October 2022 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
Sessions coverage
The first session covers the role of CCICD, streams of work such as adaptation, mitigation, oceans, climate finance, and international cooperation. It also includes key information about Fiji’s Climate Change Act 2021. The second session introduces the GCF and the role of the NDA. It includes principles of stakeholder engagement mechanisms and the SWG with objectives, composition, and achievements. It also includes the NDA Secretariat, NDA Portal, and GCF readiness support. The third session covers COP26 including Fiji’s submission to the Glasgow dialogue, and final outcomes with wins and losses. It also includes an introduction and priorities of COP26, adaptation with loss and damage, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment report. The fourth session introduces COP27 with regional priorities of Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) Leaders and CCDs relating work.
