The Mitigation unit of Climate Change Division (CCD) works in collaboration with relevant line ministries of the government to implement climate change mitigation initiatives and action across all sectors of Fiji’s economy.
The unit coordinates Fiji’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), under the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In its updated NDC submitted in 2020, Fiji has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030. The unit also coordinates and facilitates the implementation of Fiji’s Low Emissions Development Strategy (LEDS) which lays out the pathway for implementation of mitigation actions needed to achieve net-zero or net-negative emissions by the year 2050.
The unit is currently working on finalizing the National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory under the Biennial Update Report (BUR) which is a reporting obligation under UNFCCC.
