At COP26 Fiji showcased its ability as a small nation to support negotiations in relation to climate change mitigation and adaptation. Fiji is a leading climate advocate for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in global forums. Fiji is consistently urging developed countries to provide innovative finance to help the developing world cope with the impacts of climate change. The COP26 (2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference) was held in Glasgow, Scotland from 31 October to 12 November 2021.
The Fijian Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Waitt Foundation on the 3rd December 2021. The MoU targets the development of a sustainable ocean plan. The United States based Waitt Foundation creates and implements sustainable ocean plans in partnership with committed governments, local stakeholders, and communities.
